|
|
I
have prepared several more dotpups for audio/music/home-recording
applications. These were created with Puppy 1.0.8rc1 because most of
them either require or work best with ALSA. Each dotpup works on at
least three of my computers, including an old 400MHz/128MB Thinkpad
laptop. However, like most musician/audio programs, each of these
programs will benefit from more CPU because 400MHz is really too low to
be useful for realtime music-making. JACK is needed for JACK RACK and
many of the synth programs below, so you may want to install the
JACK-Qjackctl dotpup I posted in another recent thread if you do not
already have JACK installed.
(1) JACK RACK
The LADSPA effects program compiled from source. Uses whatever
effects plug-ins your heart desires and includes a sample set from the
SWF Plug-ins tarball. Per the creator, do not use for making religious
music (see ZynAddSubFX for the opposite). Requires JACK to be installed
and running.
Smaller binary version - 3.82MB (4.1MB):

Larger development version with headers/documents - 6.91MB (7.25MB)
http://www.savefile.com/files/9943204
(2) Whysynth
Graphical soft-synth similar in appearance to Xsynth-DSSI which has
a number of preset synth and instrument sounds and allows you to create
your own. Also includes some Xsynth-DSSI sounds. Compiled from source.
Requires JACK to be installed and running.
Binary version - 3.75MB (3.95MB)

Larger development version with headers/documents - 3.87MB (4.07MB)
http://www.savefile.com/files/2145955
(3) RT Synth
Small graphical soft-synth different from the Whysynth/Xsynth
breed. Includes a number of preset synth and instrument/effect sounds
and allows you to create your own. Uses a modular approach and lets you
connect individual instrument and effects engines like using JACK. Big
sounds for its size. Compiled from source. Requires JACK to be
installed and running.
Smaller binary version - 808K (828K)
http://www.savefile.com/files/4655884
Larger developmental version with headers/documents - 1.35MB (1.42MB)
http://www.savefile.com/files/9712374
(4) Spiral Synth Modular
Graphical soft-synth different from the Whysynth/Xsynth/RT Synth
breed. While it includes a few examples in the documents folder of the
developmental version, Sprial Synth Modular is a fully modular synth
that probably requires some knowledge of synth terminology and
building/patching a synth from scratch. While slightly-dated and plain
in appearance, it is very powerful if you know something about synths;
I do not think there is a computer currently existing that can tap all
the potential for this synth. Not JACK-capable yet as far as I know.
Smaller binary version - 3.85MB (4.05MB)
http://www.savefile.com/files/8459031
Larger developmental version with headers/documents - 3.93MB (4.13MB)
http://www.savefile.com/files/2651074
(5) ZynAddSubFX
Powerful graphical soft-synth not designed for the faint of heart.
Requires a powerful computer to really make use of all it has to offer.
No virtual or real keyboard needed as one is built-in. Highly-tweakable
effects are included as well, which can be a real CPU hog. Per the
author, do not use for making music against God or Jesus Christ (see
JACK RACK for the opposite position). JACK not required but
recommended.
Smaller binary version - 1.48MB (1.56MB)
http://www.savefile.com/files/1543140
Larger developmental version with headers/documents - 1.57MB (1.65MB)
http://www.savefile.com/files/5662181
(6) Hydrogen
Graphical drum machine. There is already a dotpup of Hydrogen out
there but this one uses the same installation locations and menus as
the other dotpups I have created. Next time I will pay more attention
to what is already out there! JACK not required.
Binary version - 2.72MB (2.86MB)
http://www.savefile.com/files/6613487
(6) Freebirth
Graphical drum machine, pattern-based step sequencer and synth-bass
generator based on the commercial program Rebirth. Heavily influenced
by the old Roland 303/606 machines from the 80's. Small in size but
great for that old-school touch. Does not require JACK.
Binary version - 704K (721K)

Have fun and enjoy! Please let me know if there are any issues or problems with them.

| Glad
you like them! I have a few others I am working on like TkEca/Ecasound,
Bristol, Sineshaper, etc., so I will provide more as I get them to work. |
